To commemorate the fall of Geocities, the online webcomic xkcd has adopted a new layout (see attached screenshots). Personally, I'll miss the stacks of Geocities pages featuring broken links, flashy animations, looping midi backgrounds and cursor trails. Some awesome things I noticed about the xckd layout: - Random code at the top that would be C++, but is capitalized - Dark blue text on a dark background that makes your eyes bleed - Endless poorly-formatted HTML tags - The forum link being aptly-labeled "Guestbook", as well as the author referring to himself as the "webmaster" and the store link reading "E-Commerce" - The low-resolution banner image - Failed <blink> tags - SCROLLING MARQUEE OH TEH NOES - Broken image links - "xckd Spy Camera" advertisement (TESTED ON KITES) - A hit counter with a very low number of hits but an optimistic number of digits - "Best Website" awards from sites nobody's ever heard of - The statement at the bottom saying the site is best-viewed in a 10-year old version of Netscape at low resolution, but for someone has an Internet Explorer logo (which is named netscape.gif) See it now before it changes back!

hah, that's pretty cool. I have to say that Geocities will not be missed. Eyes are burned. |
