These three red rings never go away...; Should I fix it or switch to an Elite?

First off, sorry for being MIA for so long. Lately, I've been so busy with school and other crap, I've had hardly any free time to myself.

Anyways, my xbox got the three red rings AGAIN about two days ago. I just got off the phone with customer support and I'm supposed to send it in for repairs. Apparently, my warranty expired so I have to PAY for the damn thing, and it costs $100

Lately, I've been wondering if I should sell my 360 and switch to an elite. So my next question is, should I repair it and stick with my original 360, repair it and sell it for an elite, or not repair it at all and get an elite?

If I were you I'd just send in the Xbox for repairs, since it would be cheaper than buying a new Xbox. After my second RRoD they actually sent me a new console instead of my old one.

However, I heard that relatively recently Microsoft had started using new hardware in the 360s, to prevent less red rings, and I think that applies to all of them, Elite or regular, so maybe buying a new console would help solve any future problems. I suppose if you could find someone willing to make you a good offer on your current system then it might be worth selling it and buying a new one.

If I were you, I would just buy an Elite. It has a lot better parts than the Original (I think). And, it has a 120 GB hard drive, which, since I know you play Guitar Hero and Rock Band, could come in handy. :)

I thought the only difference between the elitse and regular 360s were the color, HDMI support, and it comes with a larger hard drive (though you can buy one of those separately).

I suppose it depends on your financial situation. I would buy the Elite and maybe try to make some money off of the broken console (unlikely). The problem is, I'm sure a new console will be out in 2-3 years, but that's a long ways off. All of the new boxes have the new hardware, it's just that the Elites have HDMI and a freaking huge hard drive. You should also consider just buying an arcade version and putting your hard drive in there. It just depends on how much space you need.

But yea, I wouldn't pay $100 to get that bugger fixed. It's likely to just break again and then you're out 200 dollars.

Yea Hobbs, they did the same for me when I had to send it in the first time. I just got a brand new 360 in the mail instead of the old one that I returned to them.

And Chief, I had already dished out the money for a 120 GB hard drive, so that aspect doesn't appeal much to me. I just figured that if I kept sending it in for repairs it would just break again farther down the road. I have yet to check prices or anything but I was thinking about selling the piece of junk on eBay (after it was repaired, of course) and using that to compensate me if I went with an Elite

Oh wow, if you've already got a 120 gb hard drive then just buy the 200$ arcade edition Xbox. Then slap that huge HD into it and off you go.
