This is pretty neat.

A New Planet? Pluto demoted? Read here for more!

Weird, but I think that denying pluto as the solar system is wrong, any planet that travels around the sun, should be considered part of our solar system not just narrowing it down to "make things easier"

If pluto and 'xena' and UB31-whatever are planets, then 100's of other ice balls out in the far reaches of space would also be considered planets. Instead of having 12 planets, you get hundreds of them. I'm not a big astronomer so I really don't care what they make a planet or not but if we have to memorize more and more planets until there's eventually like 1000 of them, then screw it and just leave it at 9.

Ha! The fate of whether or not balls of rock floating in space and whether they should be dubbed "Planets" is dependent on your involvment w/ memorizing them for a science lesson.

Not condescending, just thought that was funny.

this is all a load of crap...i was born in an age where Pluto was still a planet and thats that. it will always be one and Ceres will always be the biggest astoroid in the Belt, not a planet...i'd hate to be a kid now where instead of having to memorize the age of order of nine planets, you'll have to sit down and struggle to remember all Elventy Billion of em since they'll just keep saying more and more things are planets. i draw the "this is a planet" line when three years from now, the Moon becomes a planet...thats when i say screw the soalr system... <_<

Wow this is pretty interesting but yes, it would be a bunch of crap if there started to be a hundred planets in our solar system.

I'm not an astrologist, but I think the number of planets shouldn't be dictated by what we're willing to learn in the second grade - people used to learn basic mathematics much further along in their careers, and things like calculus and algebra were university level mathematics, not junior high and high school math.

Leave it to the experts to determine what is a planet and what isn't. (Although if I've read the previous posts right, and the MOON is becoming a planet, lyke, wtf guys?)

Maybe we'll just skip the planets until high school, where it'll be kind of like chemistry - you don't have to memorize ALL the elements - Just know the useful ones and keep a star chart of planets handy.

In conclusion - leave it to the pros, or become a professional and take it up with them. ^_^
What's not is as important as what is.

I'd have to agree with KGaijin on this one. The list of planets in our solar system was originally created by astrologists; they should be allowed to revise it to fit modern knowledge.
To thine own self be true... and it shall follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.

I think that we should send a team of people to Mars. They need to stop arguing over details and get to it.
So what, I'm a Star Wars geek?!?

What?!? Dude just get me one of those cloaks and a ladies shower room and I'll be good. No Mars needed.
